In anticipation of the denouement of the holidays, the HR Director of one of our corporate clients approached me with the notion of extending the employee enthusiasm for our Toyland installation with a Winter Wonderland scene. The biggest challenge of the assignment was to create a scene “readable” from three vantage points in the 36’ tall lobby; at the building ground level, the mid flight landing and at the second story landing at the top of the stairs.. “Tipping the pond up” and foreshortening the perspective so that the action of the scene was convincing to the observer was paramount. Painting the pond with several colors and finishes (semi gloss to gloss) to achieve a sense of wate, depth and light reflection to convince the eye was seeing an icy pond for the penguins to frolic in was next. Finally, crystalline icicles hanging from the window mullions needed to be visible in the windows. This was handily achieved, adapting @shopwildthings Floating Confetti Beaded Curtains cut at random lengths to capture light and shadow (silhouetted paillettes) of the icicles.

On Valentine’s night I managed a showstopper Trifle for a Valentine’s Dinner for 12 hosted by dear friends. Yes, I paced myself making the components over the course of the week prior! The dessert was layered with Red Velvet cake, Lemon Possett, Pink Chantilly Cream, Raspberries in Melba Sauce and Fresh raspberries and strawberries for garnish. It was presented in a Juliska footed bowl set on a huge Heisey Lariat tray. The trifle and a decadent flourless chocolate torte weee served in Orrefors Prelude dishes. A paper crafter from North Vegas made the Valentine favor boxes with held assorted handmade chocolates.
